November 2011
Dear Fellow Quilters
Now that the Razzamatazz is over with the Rugby World Cup –and NZ is the holder of the Webb Ellis Cup – we can call ourselves “World Champions”- what a huge effort on behalf of the organizers as well as our almighty All Blacks, they certainly were well and truly exhausted in the final game. It showed us all in NZ what hard work and focus can achieve when we apply and commit ourselves to a task
As we look at the mountains, still with a touch of snow on them, we start to realize how fast the year is flying by, which of course brings Taupo Symposium that much closer.
We are thrilled that Bernina is once again the Major Sponsor along with Horn Sewing Cabinets. I have been behind the scenes with Bernina at two Symposiums now and I don't think any of us really understand what a major undertaking this event is for them. They do an amazing job and I am thrilled and surprised that Kevin and the Team have put their hand up once again and submitted the best proposal. Thank you so much Kevin, Hans, Chris, Colin and Julie. Your support for our industry is amazing and truly appreciated.
We were overwhelmed to have received a little under 800 registrations by the end of April! We sure have some keen quilters out there! We are still getting a steady weekly flow of registrations coming in. We are running another Registration of Interest Promotion. If you know of anyone who has not registered yet, let them know any Registration of Interest received between 1 December 2011 and 31 March 2012 goes into the draw to win their registration fee back.
All the overseas tutors have been confirmed and are now published on our website. They are all so excited about coming and look forward to meeting you all. They all have amazing different skills which they are willing to pass on to everyone. If you look at the list you will see we have Tutors coming from, USA, Canada, England, East Africa, Australia and NZ.
Now that the overseas Tutors have been announced, please look through them and if any of the Quilting Guilds would like to have a Tutor teach after Symposium which is 18 - 23 July, please contact me: Dianne (07) 376 8269.
We have had a huge job in selecting our NZ. Tutors, the numbers submitted were amazing and it certainly made our decision that much harder. The standard and variety was incredible and a team of us spent 3 full days and many hours deliberating on our final choices. New Zealand tutors will be published on our website mid to late December.
We are excited by all the tutors who have now been selected and believe the offering of these highly talented ladies will make your choices as to which classes you want to participate in, a tough task - Good Luck.
Our first Raffle will be drawn on the 16 December 2011 and the winner will be notified by phone and will be on the website. Thank you to everyone who supported us by selling the tickets. We were thrilled with the response.
As with any large event there are many areas of organization to clarify/identify that need to be done. Our committee meets monthly to discuss our goals and monitor the progress to date. We invited tenders to submit for various catering functions from our local and regional caterers and believe you will be impressed with our choice.
The Symposium venue will be held at the Taupo-nui-a-tia College which is in Spa Road, this may be helpful when booking your accommodation.
Once we get the advertising sold for the Symposium which is well and truly underway we will then be on to production and printing of the classes’ booklets.
Over the Christmas Holidays have a look on the website for the photos and Bios of our Tutors. The Web challenge will be on the Web in the first quarter of next year, so keep checking the Website.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Team for all the work and time they have put into the organization of Taupo Symposium so far. They are amazing considering they are all holding down full time jobs and running households and families.
With Christmas only 4 weeks away, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a joyous Christmas and the very best wishes for 2012.
I will be in contact with you all once your holidays are over and everyone is back at work again. So please let me say a big thank you to everyone for your support to myself and my team in the progress for our Taupo Symposium.
Yours sincerely
Dianne Traveller

A word from Bernina
The 18th July 2013 seems a long way off at the moment. I am sure it is going to race around pretty quick.
I like to think that “A quilt is a patchwork of friends inspiring us to be our best along with a potpourri of memories during the creative process”
Bernina and Horn are proud to provide machines, cabinets, tables and sponsorship to the 2013 Taupo Fabric Art Festival. Our goal is to assist you by providing product that encourages creativity without any boundaries.
I look forward to seeing you all in Taupo.
Symposium 2015
Time is ticking by very quickly and we have only had a few responses for contenders to host Symposium 2015. These contenders have been from the North Island. To date we have not had confirmation from any group in the South Island.
This is a courtesy call out to the South Island as we know traditionally the Symposiums have been held alternately in the North and South Island. Christchurch did show interest and I thank them profusely for their bravery. However the problem will be accommodation as there has been so much damage done in the Christchurch area with the earthquakes. Good on them for even considering the option.
If there is any other group or organization in the South Island who would be interested in hosting Symposium 2015 please contact Dianne Traveller at dianne@tauposymposium.co.nz by Saturday 31 December 2011. There is a large amount of work involved in organising an event of this degree. We need to announce 2015 host by the end of the year to allow the host to start organizing the next event.

Newsletter - April 2011
Newsletter No. 1 - April 2011 Here we are now attending the “Remarkable Symposium”
and it really makes us realise that Taupo Symposium 2013, Fabric Art Festival, is
not far away. The dates are 18 to 23 July 2013 – put these in your diary now! Taupo
Symposium 2013 is being organised by the NZ Patchwork and Quilting Charitable Trust.
The Trustees are Brent Winkelmann (Lawyer), Gary and Dianne Traveller and Katrina
Davidson.
The purpose of the Trust is to be able to have access to funds to enable us to bring
Overseas Tutors to NZ for all New Zealand Patchwork and Quilting groups to have
access to. The Trust will be offering sponsorship to send our “up and coming” quilters
and fabric artists overseas to learn more and bring their skills back to New Zealand
to pass onto all of us.
As you can see from the dates, our Symposium is going to be held in the middle of
the school holidays. This is a great time for Taupo when looking at accommodation
as there are no Sporting Activities Booked for Taupo that weekend.
The classes will be held at Taupo-nui-a-tia College, on Spa Road. The exhibition
will be at the Great Lake Centre on the Main Highway next to the Information Centre
and the Saturday night dinner will be held at the Event Centre - by the AC Baths,
on Spa Road.
If you check in your registration bag you will see there is a map of Taupo, which
will enable you to find accommodation close to the venues.
You could also look up www.taupoholidayhomes.co.nz if you would like to get a group
together and share a house.
Enclosed is a registration form to be completed. You will find the drop off RED
Letter Box at the Minerva Stand in the Merchant Mall.
To date we have 23 overseas Tutors Booked ready to come to New Zealand. They are
all very excited to come and share their techniques with us. As at the time of writing
this we are still choosing the Australian and New Zealand Tutors but we will have
an amazing line up for you to choose.
We look forward to seeing you, and hosting you in the beautiful Central Plateau
on the shores of Lake Taupo.
